Chess report for Autumn Term 07

Friday evening remains busy with chess coaching and it is fantastic to see so many boys continuing to enjoy the game.

This term a number of boys played in a tournament at the Harrodian School where in the morning session the Northwood Prep A team consisting of Alex Mellis, Rohan Bindra, Nikil Shah and Jai Thakrar came second in the A group.  The Northwood Prep B team consisting of Ben Stewart, Rohan Pau, Amar Shah and Kushil Ganatra came third in the B group.  Two boys Thomas Goulde and Tej Thakkar were first in the B group as part of the mixed All Stars team.
In the afternoon session Tarun Malhotra, Roman Mitra, Kavan Kothari and Kyan Karashah were second in the A group, while the B group was one by Christopher Driver, Paaras Kantaria and Shakil Karim.  James Wells and Burhannudin Pisavadi played in the individual competition.  It is always an exciting challenge for the boys to pit their wits against players from other schools.
Kavan Kothari represented Hertfordshire in a country friendly match played at Nottingham involving teams from Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Hertfordshire.  The Hertfordshire team came third with some challenging matches played.
Next term all the boys will enter the British Land UK Chess Challenge.  The first seven rounds will be played in school, with the top scoring boys being selected for an area Megafinal against players from other schools.  There will also be an under nine team and an under eleven team selected by Mr & Mrs Hodgson to enter the National Primary Schools Chess Competition, the selection for this will again be based on the top scoring boys in school.  There will also be an inter schools chess tournament hosted by Northwood Prep towards the end of the Spring Term which should give other boys the chance to be selected for tournament play.
