LANGUAGE
To consolidate:
- answer questions using full sentences and give reasons for what they think
- listen attentively to others and express their ideas clearly and concisely
- read with understanding and expression
- blend sounds to form words when reading and writing
- write sentences using capital letters, full stops and leave spaces between words
- form letters correctly with an awareness of their height and position on the line
To learn to:
- understand alphabetical order through rhymes and songs
- retell familiar stories and recounting the main points in the correct sequence
- read a variety of texts e.g. story books, poems, non-fiction resources
- write our own stories and try to sound out words for ourselves
- to commit to memory some of the high frequency words and begin to recognise spelling patterns
MATHEMATICS
To consolidate:
- counting verbally from 0-20 forwards and backwards reliably and confidently
- recording of numbers 0-20 accurately
- estimating quantities of objects and check by counting
- sequencing ordinal numbers e.g. 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
- sequencing days of the weeks and months of the yearÂ
- use language to describe the shape and size of 2D and 3D shapes
- add two groups of objects as a form of addition
- use language such as more or less, greater or smaller when comparing objects or numbers
- use language to describe the shape and size of 2D and 3D shapes
- add two groups as a form of addition and partition sets as a form of subtraction
To learn to:
- count in fives and tens
- use and apply number bonds e.g. 10+0, 9+1, 8+2 etc
- use language to name and describe the features of 3D shapes
- investigate symmetry
OTHER EARLY LEARNING GOALS
Our topics will be: Growing plants, Life cycles (insects, animals and birds) and Transport. Activities and skills will all be related to these topics.
We will encourage children to:
- look closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change
- question why things happen and how things work
- observe and identify features of living things and their environment
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
This term in PE the boys will continue to develop their fundamental movement skills using bats and balls and skipping ropes. The boys will continue to develop their gymnastics skills and also prepare for Sports Day. (J.S)
FRENCH
This term our topics will be Nature, Body Parts and the Weather. (D.L.)
MUSIC
This term the children will be learning about the different instruments in the orchestra and using various instruments to explore pitch. (P.E.)
