European Computer Driving Licence® (ECDL)

The European Computer Driving Licence® (ECDL) is the internationally recognised qualification which enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills. The record breaking ECDL is the fastest growing IT user qualification in over 125 countries. We are proud to announce that NPS is now an approved testing centre for pupils in the school.

The ECDL is a test of practical skills and competencies and consists of seven separate modules covering computer theory and practice. Module 1 is a theoretical test of computing knowledge at a general level and Modules 2-7 are practical skills Tests, as follows:

  1. Concepts of Information Technology (IT)
  2. Using the Computer and Managing Files
  3. Word Processing
  4. Spreadsheets
  5. Databases
  6. Presentation
  7. Information and Communication

When a candidate (a pupil Year 6 or above) registers with Northwood Prep. to start the ECDL certification process he receives a Log Book in which the progress through the seven tests is recorded and a CD or course text book. When all seven modules are completed, the Candidate receives the ECDL award and the BCS IT user level 1.

If a pupil wishes and is capable they may continue to complete as many modules as they wish before leaving NPS. If they have not completed all the modules by the time of leaving NPS, these can be completed any time within the three years period to gain the full qualification.
