Science, IT & Learning Resource Centre

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC)is the school's most recently developed facility. It opened in September 2001 and is situated above the new Science and Technology labs in the Christopher Harding building.

The centre is open every day from 8.15am - 5.15pm and is supervised at all times by a full-time chartered librarian. From the moment they arrive in the morning, through breaks, lunchtime or after-school prep the boys are free to come and choose books, read in the lobby area, continue with their studies, finish prep or explore the latest new software. The timetable is full with the whole school making use of the 23 workstations, continuous Internet access and a range of reference materials and software to support subjects throughout the curriculum.

The LRC is home to 5,000 items, including books, CD's, videos, audio tapes, magazines and posters. The library collection is fully catalogued and automated with subject enquiry access available across the network. A team of enthusiastic Year 8 Librarians are involved in the day-to-day running of the centre. This year they will also be busy creating databases for the school archive and personal profiles of the boys interests, activities and reading habits.

It is clear that a positive attitude to reading, research and independent learning is more readily encouraged and fostered when constant access to the resources is provided throughout the school day. The Learning Resource Centre plays a vital role in delivering the school's commitment to 'life-long learning'.
