SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM

DR. TREVOR LEE
Headmaster

Trevor qualified as a teacher in the late seventies and has enjoyed a broad base to his teaching experience before joining Northwood Prep. in 1997. This has ranged from the demands of running a busy department in a comprehensive school, a House Master's position at Dulwich College and a first Headship at another London Prep. school. He gained his Master's degree in Education at Jesus College, Cambridge and was awarded a Doctorate from the Business School at Hull University in 2005. Dr. Lee is a Research Associate at the National College for Leadership of Schools and Childrens' Services and has published papers in the UK, North America and Australia. He was the ESU Page Scholar in 2006, working in schools in Boston, Syracuse, Rochester NY and Philadelphia. His current research interests include strategic leadership, school improvement through collaborative enquiry and the promotion of pupil well-being. His first book - Strategy and Leadership for Turbulent TImes - was published last year and is available worldwide via Amazon. With continued encouragement from an innovative and supportive Board of Governors, Trevor has managed to develop his teaching role by contributing to educational conferences as far afield as San Francisco, London, New York, Edinburgh, Ottawa, San Diego and Chicago. As a former England schools rugby international, he is keen supporter of Saracens RFC and the national side. Outside of school he is a member of the M.C.C., enjoys all forms of music and is on the leadership team of a local church. Paper - "The Pedagogy of Wellbeing"

MR. IAN RICE
Deputy Head

Ian was educated locally at St Nicholas Grammar School and qualified as a teacher in the late 70's from Carnegie School of Physical Education. He took his first teaching post at Malsis Boys' Boarding School in Yorkshire where he taught Mathematics, PE and Games for four years before leaving to take up a Head of PE and Games post at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' Preparatory School. Whilst at Haberdashers', Ian prepared the pupils for the Mathematics entrance examinations and the Key Stage 2 tests, and in his final year he was appointed Head of ICT in the Preparatory School. Recently Ian has achieved the Government's benchmark qualification, the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). In his spare time he enjoys rugby, cricket, scuba diving, classic TV comedies, CSI and to his family's dismay he has no time for soaps but is prepared to watch Star Trek.

MR. ANDREW CROOK
2nd Deputy Head
Head of Modern Languages

Andrew was educated locally at Harrow County Grammar School and with teachers as parents, vowed never to enter the teaching profession. He duly graduated from Lancaster University with an Honours degree in French, obtained his postgraduate teaching qualification in Modern Languages at King's College, London and taught in France for two years at the Université de Perpignan and a Lycée in the Alps before returning to teach at two London independent schools. In 1991 he joined Northwood Prep to teach French and introduce German and Spanish to the oldest pupils and impart his passion for languages, travel and sport through his games coaching and a variety of trips and activities. He was appointed Director of Studies and, subsequently, Head of Senior School, a role that involves him fully in the busy academic and pastoral life of the school.

MISS. KAREN MCNERNEY
Head of Junior School and Early Years

Karen grew up and was educated in Wimbledon. She graduated from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne with an Honours degree in Biochemistry. However, she knew that she always wanted to teach and moved to Swansea to complete a P.G.C.E in Primary Teaching. She has taught both boys and girls in prep. schools in North London and Hertfordshire before joining Northwood Prep in 2001. Karen is currently studying for a Doctorate in Education. In what little free time she has left, she indulges in her passion for horse riding and keeping fit at the gym.

DR. MARK DAVIES
Director of Studies
Head of Science

A graduate of the University of Wales, Mark Davies did cancer research in London and obtained a Ph.D. whilst working at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington. He became a teacher after completing a P.G.C.E. at the University of Bath and started his teaching career in North London. After 4 years teaching, he completed a course leading to an MA in Science Education (London). Dr Davies was an examiner in A Level Biology and taught in secondary schools in North and West London before joining Northwood Prep in 1998.

MRS. STEPHANIE NEWTON
School Administrator
Chair of the Pastoral Care Group

Stephanie was born in Nottingham and educated at Copthall Grammar School for Girls in Mill Hill. She obtained a Bachelor of Education with a distinction in her teaching practice in 1980. Stephanie's teaching career has encompassed both the State and Independent sectors. Having been appointed in 1990 to Head the Middle section of the School, her career success has been reflected in her later appointment as Deputy Head in 1997. She thoroughly enjoys her responsibilities on the Senior Leadership Team, the overall pastoral care of the boys and the liaison with all sections of the School. Away from Northwood Prep, Stephanie enjoys gardening, finding it both creative and relaxing. Leisure activities keep her fit and she looks forward to spending time with her five grand children.
