Wellbeing & PSHEE

Head of Department: Mrs Claire Jones

Our Wellbeing and PSHEE Department aims to develop our pupils beyond the academic realm, giving them confidence, and equipping them with knowledge and understanding. They leave our care as respectful, enlightened and thoughtful individuals who are capable of making informed decisions, and who understand the world in which we live today.

PSHEE (called Wellbeing in Years 3 & 4) equips the pupils with the life skills they need to flourish at MTP and later at their Senior School (be it MTS or elsewhere). Further details about the syllabus (including statutory RSE content) is available in the termly curriculum notes.

In Y3 to Y8, pupils learn about themselves as growing and changing individuals with their own experiences and ideas, and as members of their communities. They become more mature, independent and self-confident.

They learn about the wider world and the interdependence of the communities within it. They develop their sense of social justice and moral responsibility, and begin to understand that their own choices and behaviour can affect local, national or global issues and political and social institutions. They learn how to take part more fully in School and community activities.

As they begin to develop physically, and in terms of their maturity, they face the changes of puberty and the move to the final two years of MTP.

They understand how to make more confident and informed choices about their health and environment, to take more responsibility individually and as a year group for their own learning, and they learn more about the detrimental impacts of bullying.

Pupils are also taught to play an active role as members of a democratic society, to develop independence and responsibility, and to make informed choices about their own lifestyle. This is both in general terms, and in terms of future career options, which helps each child to fulfil their potential.
